About five years ago, VIRAN and NIOK decided to establish a “Community of Interest” (CoI) as an instrument to align and energize the Netherlands catalysis research, and to reconnect it to the success, visibility and impact that it had in the first two decades of NIOK’s existence.

All formal activities and administrative tasks were completed by 2019 and the first activities were planned for spring 2020, which did however not materialize due to COVID. In 2021 the board of VIRAN decided to rejuvenate the plans regarding implementing a CoI and agreed with the board of NIOK on a way forward. A series of activities frame the process to fill the CoI with content:

April 6, 2022: CoI roundtable discussion (virtual)
Around 50 junior, mid-career and senior players from academia and industry reflected on the current status of the Netherlands catalysis R&D landscape.

May 10, 2022: Community building engagement (N3C, Noorwijkerhout)
Bringing people into contact, building bridges between academic and industrial researchers.

October 12, 2022: CoI kick-off one-day workshop (Zwarte Doos, TUe)
This workshop constitutes the official start of the CoI. Details will follow.
