
Dr. Erwin Stobbe is a Principal Researcher and Principal Science Expert at Shell, working in the Catalyst Expertise and Innovation Team at Shell’s Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam. In his role, he supports Shell Catalysts and Technology and the broader Shell businesses, identifying and developing materials and catalyst solutions for existing businesses and new energy transition opportunities.
Erwin holds a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry and Catalysis from Utrecht University (1999, Prof. J.W. Geus). Following his PhD, he first joined the Dutch Energy Research Centre (ECN) where he worked as a researcher, group leader and programme coordinator in the area of hydrogen production for fuel cell systems. In 2007, Erwin joined Shell as a senior scientist, and he became a principal researcher in 2016. In Shell, Erwin worked on various catalyst innovation and development projects for Shell’s GTL technology, gas-to-chemicals and CO2 conversion, ranging from exploratory research to catalyst scale-up and manufacturing technical support.
